Lumberton’s Early Childhood Campus was evacuated just after 10:30 a.m., Thursday after a zone one fire alarm sounded throughout the building. Kindergarten through first grade students remained outside for half-an-hour while Lumberton police, fire fighters and EMS checked the Main Street building. No evidence of fire or smoke was found, however and students were returned to class just after 11 a.m. Fire department officials said they don’t yet know what caused the false alarm.

This house in the 1100 block of Elgie is one of more than 20 house fires that have occurred in the area in the past month. The fire, which started early Saturday morning, was deemed accidental and investigators say it was electrical. Firefighters responded to six other fires the same night.

Shiny as a brand-new Christmas toy, this 1924 American LaFrance fire truck returned Monday to the Fire Museum of Texas on the back of a Herrera's tow truck driven by Michael Hunt. Inmates at the Ellis Unit near Huntsville had been working on the truck for about 2 1/2 years, billing the museum about $5,300 for their handiwork. A number of possibilities are in its future: it could be driven in local parades and used as a display item or might be used to trade for a steamer or chemical truck, two vehicles the museum doesn't have.

The East Roundbunch Road Bridge across Cow Bayou in Orange County is now left permanently open to boats, but closed to road traffic after Hurricane Ike’s storm surge damaged the mechanism that makes the old swing bridge move. Kenine Holts, a Production Worker on a restoration team from Servpro out of Beaumont, disinfects the studs of a shower stall. Black mold can be seen growing on the underside of the cross studs near his head. The disinfectant will kill it and then the wood is painted with a sealer. Everything, including the toilets, were removed from the house prior to the cleanup by Servpro. The Bridge City home was damaged by over 4 feet of water from the storm surge of Hurricane Ike.

The world's largest Zeppelin Airship sits tethered at the Port of Beaumont Monday as she is refitted with her engines and fins. Airship Ventures,the new owners, were also in Beaumont overseeing the delivery of the company's Zeppelin which arrived at the Port of Beaumont over the weekend via container ship. The 246 foot long airship will finish up with all inspections and refitting near the end of the week and will be leaving for California.
