The Kelly girls basketball team is led by coach Jameslon Knowles center, who could be seen giving instructions as her team was playing Orangefield. She is the daughter of Kelly boys basketball coach James Knowles. The father/daughter duo coach at Kelly High School. Knowles is a former Lamar University women’s basketball player.

Darius Lemora Recovering From Broken Leg

Harold Placette Recalls Aftermath of Pearl Harbor

Harold Placette, 89, of Port Arthur, was aboard the destroyer USS Phelps docked at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked. He was a radarman for his ship and his post was the highest point on the ship. He witnessed the attack with an unobstructed view, seeing Japanese warplanes flying low overhead. He saw the battleship USS Arizona explode and sink, taking with it more than 1,100 sailors.
