Petition to Save Swing Bridge Sections

There is a petition drive going to try and save two end sections of the old Highway 82 swing bridge that crosses from Pleasure Island to Louisiana. People want to see the sections left as fishing piers since Hurricane Ike destroyed what was already down there. Cody Cappadona, from Santa Fe Texas, signed the petition while in the SGS Causeway Bait Tackle and Grill store near the bridge.

Sewer Project Nears Completion

The City of Beaumont Water Utilities Department workers, Anthony Matthews, top left, Leonard Washington, top right, Trent Thibodeaux, bottom left, and Steven Kiel, bottom right, wade in chest deep water to connect the two pipes using a collar. The sewer pipe replacement project under the Eastex Freeway is close to being finished Tuesday morning as workers connected the two sections of the new 30 inch pipe. The pipe was run under the freeway and will tie into a 36 inch line near the intersection of Kenwood and Longfellow streets.

New Wharf Nears November Completion Date

Port of Beaumont Director Chris Fisher walks close to the edge of the new 650 foot long wharf on the Orange County side of property owned by the Port of Beaumont. The new facility, which should be open and receiving shipping by mid to late November, will have an open storage area, new rail lines, and a new road coming into it.

Muddy Babe Zaharias Football Field

The Babe Zaharias football field took a beating last Friday night with the Jaguars playing in a heavy downpour. On Wednesday, there was still some standing water in the visiting players team area and a lot of mud in the center of the field.
