Larry Payne, "The Waver"

  • Crossing guard Larry Payne, "The Waver," works his corner at Dowlen Rd. and Gatway near Marshall Middle School. Payne earned his name from his habit of waving at every passing driver. He's acquired a large and devoted following from this predilection. A Facebook page created in his honor already has more than 1,200 fans (and growing).

Graduates received their high school diplomas from the Franks Educational School, through a program funded by the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission's Substance Abuse Division.

Academy Donates Bikes to Roy Guess

  • Aaron Bisnar runs up on stage to accept his bike at Roy Guess Elementary in Beaumont, Wednesday. In a special surprise assembly, bicycles and other gifts were given to randomly drawn children that excelled in good behavior, academics, attendance, and the reading program. Several randomly drawn teachers also received small gifts. Academy donated the 26 20" Ozone bikes to Roy Guess Elementary. The school was chosen at random from a list of schools and organizations by the EastTex location of Academy. Select Academy stores gave out $120,000.00 in bikes to different schools and organizations in America. Each bike has a retail value of about $40.00.

Student's Balloon Lands in Virginia
